AIRPIX AERIAL IMAGES are based near Bridgend, in Glamorgan, South Wales and offer commercial aerial media services to both the private and public sectors within the UK. Situated close to the M4 corridor we can be in Cardiff, Swansea, or in the middle of the Brecon Beacons within the hour. Having worked in the creative industry 30 years ago, the Chief Pilot and Photographer is a lover of the great outdoors having extensively explored the UK and particularly the Brecon Beacons for the last 20 years both on foot and mountain bike, and having been as far away as Everest Base Camp. Having completed Mountain Leader Training nearly 20 years ago, we can film not only in remote regions but even from a mountain summit for a truly unique visual experience. Our personnel also have full DBS clearance.
We gained Civil Aviation Authority permission (PFCO) (ref#2030) for commercial operations UAV (Drone) use in March 2016. This process involves a theory exam, practical flight assessment, the production of an Operations Manual, and on average takes six months. A pilot log book, flight records, aircraft service records, etc. must be maintained and CAA permission renewed annually.
In order to deliver a safe operation, we ensure that:
- Our drones are only flown commercially by a qualified pilot (in accordance with Civil Aviation Authority Requirements).
- Our drones are fully maintained in an airworthy condition, including regular inspections and servicing.
- We have extensive public liability insurance.
At AIRPIX AERIAL IMAGES we endeavour to utilise the latest cutting edge technology to provide our customers with the highest quality images from the best angles and perspective. At present in order to deliver this, we utilise both the DJI Inspire ONE and the DJI Phantom 3 Professional. The DJI Phantom is ideal where a compact Drone is needed, indoors for example, or in a remote location such as the top of a mountain in the middle of the Brecon Beacons. The DJI Inspire is larger and heavier, giving a more stable platform in windier conditions. Combined with the new Z3 zoom lens creating many new opportunities in industrial and commercial drone use, from inspection to search and rescue.
The new Z3 zoom lens. (3.5 × optical zoom, 2x lossless digital zoom) The Inspire has the option of 2 controllers – one for flying and one for the camera allowing greater control over composition. Flight time is around 15 to 20 minutes per battery pack, depending on flying conditions, with multiple battery packs allowing numerous flights. One of the most important features of the DJI Drones are its accurate stabilisation and resulting image quality. The stabilised camera mounts and advanced flight controls provide a crisp image that requires minimal to non-post production. It’s capable of shooting 4K video and capturing 12 megapixel photographs.
Camera positions and locks can be added to GPS flight patterns to achieve the desired shot with many safety features such as: GPS-assisted Hover - Vision Positioning System - Automatic Flight Logs - Intelligent Battery - Follow Me - Point of Interest - Return to Home. Safety features are updated frequently in this exciting field of technology.
